Privacy
databox.ninja is my informal site for sharing projects with people I know. It has no accounts, sign-up forms, cookies, analytics or ads. This page says what the site does record, and what stays with you.
What the server records
Like nearly every web server, the one behind this site writes a line to its log for each request. Each line holds:
- your IP address;
- the date and time;
- the address of the page or file requested, and whether it was found;
- the address of the page that linked you here (the “referrer”), if your browser sends it;
- your browser’s description of itself (the “user agent”).
Requests the server can’t handle also go to an error log, with the IP address and the request.
I use these logs only to keep the site running and to look into problems. I don’t sell or share them, and I don’t combine them with other information.
Fonts and other sites
This page, the front page, the missing-page (404) page and the FBAR and Form 5471 pages use fonts stored on this server, so viewing them doesn’t contact any other site.
Each project on the site is built separately, and some still load their fonts from Google Fonts: Visual Tax Forms (/visual-tax-form/ and /visual_forms_NG/), the credit card benefits page and the retirement plan guide. When a page does, your browser sends Google your IP address and the address of the page, and Google handles that under its own privacy policy.
The credit card benefits page also loads a spreadsheet library from cdnjs (run by Cloudflare), but only when you save or open a file there.
Links to other sites, such as sources and my LinkedIn profile, take you to sites with their own privacy policies.
What stays in your browser
A few project pages save things in your own browser’s storage so they’re still there next time:
- the credit card benefits page saves what you enter and the tab you were on;
- the retirement plan guide saves two display settings;
- Visual Tax Forms (
/visual_forms_NG/) saves the order you chose for its lanes.
This storage stays on your device; the site never receives it. Clearing this site’s data in your browser removes it.
What you type or open
No page on this site sends what you type, or the files you open, to the server. Before any page does, this page will say what it sends and why.
